What Do You Know About Cinnamon?
Cinnamon comes from the inside of the bark of a tree that is known scientifically as Cinnamomum. The bark is removed from the tree and allowed to dry. The inner bark curls up as it dries, giving us cinnamon sticks. It was a gift to rulers and royalty in earlier times and is now one of the most popular spices in the world. It has a distinctive smell and when used as a spice it adds richness to the food being made.
What most people don’t realize is that cinnamon also has some proven health benefits. It is loaded with anti-oxidants and could rightfully be labeled a superfood due to the concentration of anti-oxidants found in the bark. Cinnamon also has anti-inflammatory properties that can help your body repair itself and reduce inflammation issues. Other benefits are the reduction of the risk of heart disease and cinnamon’s known benefit in reducing the risk of diabetes. At one time cinnamon was used as a preservative and it is known to reduce fungal and bacterial invasions.
